Design and development experiences are constantly evolving and changing and is something that one must stay ahead of the curve on as much as possible. In the past, there was the move from Flash to HTML5, the change from desktop focused to mobile focused, and even the move from loud design to clean, crisp and modern. But none of these are as much of an impact as the growing world of Mixed Reality.
From virtual reality to augmented experiences, we are seeing this new side of design take off and the ability for it to impact and interact with daily life is growing enormously. But the question still remains on how quickly will it be adopted. VR has been around for several years and is still not widely used or experienced. Why is that?
It is our belief that there are advantages to both but in the short turn we will see Augmented Reality (AR) take a leap ahead, seeing it be more of an everyday experience that we currently can have with VR. With AR there is a sense of community, it is something that many people can interact with at the same time and with each other. It is this advantage, we believe that has held VR back, its lack of social-ability. We live in a world where social networks are part of the everyday, where interacting with people, though differently than we once did, is still something we all crave at some point in our day and life and AR is able to add to those social experiences, to deepen our interactions with places, things and even people. With VR, it is not as widely available and it is currently, for the most part, a solo experience and for that it likely will take longer to go mainstream.
Affari has had the great honor and ability to work on several projects involving both AR and VR, from movie site development using AR, to working with new gaming companies in their VR endeavors, and through each we have been able to work to see something brought to life that people can feel a part of and truly be enveloped as they experience it. Going forward, the Mixed Reality abilities of the team here at Affari are exciting for all industries, bringing things to life in new ways, from interactive apps utilizing AR to mixed reality websites, that allow the user to experience information in all new scenarios and ways.
The futures of VR and AR are here and we know that it cannot be overlooked. Though one may be easier to interact with currently than the other, that does not mean that both will not continue to change how we interact in the world in the future. Our mission is to make that interaction easy, both to create and to experience. Our job is to make sure that all have the ability to enjoy the experiences that are created and brought to life, so that the story that each tells can be done in a way that draws people in and does not push them away.
